Delete your Paycent account

Last updated: June 6, 2026

You can request deletion of your Paycent account at any time. This page explains how to do that, what data is removed, what is kept (and why), and how to reach us if you can't complete the in-app flow.

Before you start: settle your balances

Paycent will not delete an account that still owes money to, or is owed money by, another group member. This protects the people you share groups with from being left with unresolved debts they can no longer settle against you. Before requesting deletion:

  1. Open each of your groups and check the Balances tab.
  2. Record any outstanding payments you make or receive so balances reach zero.
  3. Once every group reads "settled," you're ready to delete.

If you try to delete an account with unsettled balances, the app will block the request and point you at the specific group(s) that still have an open balance.

How to delete your account in the app

  1. Open the Paycent app (mobile or web).
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Tap Delete account.
  5. Confirm. The app signs you out and your data is processed for deletion immediately.

How to request deletion by email

If you no longer have access to the app — for example, your device is lost or you can't complete the in-app sign-in — email support@paycent.net from the address registered to your Paycent account with the subject line "Account deletion request". We will verify ownership and process the deletion on your behalf within seven business days. If we can't confirm ownership we'll reply asking for additional verification before deleting.

What gets deleted

The following personal data is removed immediately when you delete your account:

  • Your email address(es)
  • Your phone number(s)
  • Your password and authentication credentials
  • Your active sessions on every device
  • Any pending verification codes or tokens
  • Your saved preferences and notification settings
  • Any third-party sign-in links (Google, Apple)
  • Your profile name, username, and profile image

What we keep — and why

Paycent is a shared product: every expense, payment, and group you took part in is also part of the financial history of the other members of those groups. To keep their records coherent — so they can still see who paid for what and how balances were reached — we keep an anonymized placeholder in place of your account. Specifically:

  • The historical expenses and payments you created or were involved in remainin their original groups, with the same amounts and dates, but with your identifying details replaced by the label "Deleted user".
  • The group memberships you held remainrecorded so other members' balance calculations stay accurate.
  • Activity-feed entries you triggered (e.g. "X added expense Y") remainin the affected groups and display "Deleted user" in place of your name.

We do not keep any contact information, credentials, or other personal identifiers tied to this placeholder. Other group members cannot use the placeholder to identify, contact, or re-link you to your past activity.

Retention timeline

  • Personal identifiers (email, phone, sessions, tokens, preferences, third-party sign-in links): deleted immediately when your request is processed.
  • Anonymized placeholder + historical group activity: retained for as long as the affected groups exist, so other members' balances and history stay accurate.
  • Encrypted database backups: deleted records may persist in our rolling backup set for up to 35 days (7 daily + 4 weekly backups) before being overwritten. Backups are not used for production reads and are only restored from in the event of a service-wide incident.
  • Server logs: operational logs may contain your user ID or request IDs for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes, after which they are rotated out.

Reversibility

Account deletion is not reversible. Once your account is deleted, we cannot recover the deleted personal data even on request — it no longer exists in our active systems. If you want to use Paycent again later, you can sign up fresh with a new account.

If something goes wrong

If the in-app deletion flow fails, blocks unexpectedly, or you don't receive a confirmation that you'd expect, contact support@paycent.netand we'll resolve it manually.
