We collect the minimum we need to run Paycent. Nothing is sold, and the app has zero ad tech.
If we ever add paid features, they'll be optional and clearly opt-in — never gating something you use today.
Splitwise is the de-facto reference in this space — we get compared to it constantly, so here's an honest side-by-side.

There isn't one. Paycent is built by a small team. Hosting and infrastructure are inexpensive at our scale, and we'd rather grow on word of mouth than burn goodwill with paywalls.
The features listed above will stay free. If we add advanced capabilities (e.g. business expense exports, OCR receipt scanning), those may become paid extras — but the core product won't be gated.
Right now, we don't. We're building Paycent because the existing options frustrated us. Sustainability will come from optional paid extras, not from clipping the core experience.
Yes. Every group's expenses and payments can be exported as CSV from the group settings. You own your data.
